Karsen Nelson was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamiira Austin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Sumner had just enough and edged out Gaither 2-0 on Thursday.
Not much got past Aliyanis Stubbs, who gave up just seven hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Gaither off the board.
At the plate, Sumner's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sa'Myra Cameron, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.
The victory got Sumner back to even at 1-1. As for East Bay, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.
