Basketball Recap: Mitchell's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

If Mitchell was feeling good fresh off their 94-72 takedown of River Ridge last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mitchell Mustangs fell 75-66 to the Sports Leadership & Management Spartans on Monday. The Mustangs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Mitchell lost, don't look at Christopher Stoddart. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. Stoddart has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. Fillipe Frangie was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Mitchell's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Sports Leadership & Management, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-7.

Mitchell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Calvary Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Calvary Christian likes a good challenge. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they will challenge Northside Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
