The Champion Golden Flashes will head out on the road to challenge the Newton Falls Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Champion gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 59-16 victory over Liberty. Given Champion's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Leopards are ranked 744th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Champion's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isabella Meyer, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Meyer has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Haynie, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Newton Falls scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat McDonald 59-24 at home. That 35 point margin sets a new team best for Newton Falls this season.
Champion is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Newton Falls, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11.
Everything came up roses for Champion against the Tigers when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 52-19 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Champion since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
