Basketball Game Preview: Glen Iris Baptist Swordsmen vs. First Assembly Christian Lions

The Glen Iris Baptist Swordsmen will challenge the First Assembly Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Monday, Glen Iris Baptist was able to grind out a solid victory over Chilton Christian Academy, taking the game 45-33. Given the Swordsmen's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Patriots are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Eva Jones was nothing short of spectacular: she posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Rebekah Everett was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, First Assembly Christian waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 48-24 win. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 24 points or more this season.

First Assembly Christian's win came from a few key players Glen Iris Baptist will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kate McVey, who went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points and six steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Isabella Wilson also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first board of the season.

First Assembly Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.2 points per game. As for Glen Iris Baptist, their record is now 9-2.

Everything came up roses for Glen Iris Baptist against First Assembly Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 46-19 victory. In that game, Glen Iris Baptist amassed a halftime lead of 28-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
