Bastrop is a perfect 3-0 against Anderson since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bears will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Bastrop is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Crockett just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 11-10. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bears, who until this contest were averaging 3.83 runs allowed.
Jessa Clay stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored a run while going 3-for-3. Bryleigh Fawcett was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Anderson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past Richards School for Young Women Leaders 19-4. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven games by 13 runs or more so far this season.
Brinkly Eaton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Taylor Coggin was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kylie Grahmann, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Anderson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matchups.
Bastrop's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 15-6-2. As for Anderson, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bastrop hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .447. However, it's not like Anderson struggles in that department as they've averaged .414. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bastrop took their victory against Anderson in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 18-1 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
