Suffield Academy took care of business in their home opener on Wednesday (barely). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Kingswood Oxford Wyverns.
For Kingswood Oxford's part, Alexis Nisyrios '27 put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Nisyrios '27 has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive pitching appearances. Nisyrios '27 was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with a home run and a stolen base.
Nisyrios '27 wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reminisce Rosado '28, who went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
Kingswood Oxford's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-2.
