George Wythe is 8-2 against Galax since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Maroons will be playing at home against the Maroon Tide at 4:30 p.m. The timing is sure in George Wythe's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Galax has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
If George Wythe beats Galax with ten runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Maroons' pitcher stepped up to hand Radford a 10-0 shutout on Monday.
Not much got past Ashley Layne, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Radford off the board. Layne has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Aniyah Burks was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Morgan Layne, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
George Wythe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Radford only posted a batting average of .143.
Meanwhile, Galax lost 20-2 to Auburn on Tuesday.
Maddson Bobbitt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Leonard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
George Wythe is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Galax, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
George Wythe was able to grind out a solid victory over Galax in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. Do the Maroons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroon Tide turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
