Basketball Recap: Bishop Machebeuf Takes a Loss

Bishop Machebeuf was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-44 heartbreaker at the hands of the Belleview Christian Bruins. While the Buffaloes didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bruins 18-8 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, Bishop Machebeuf saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Justina Cichos dropped a double-double with ten points and 15 rebounds. What's more, Cichos also racked up five steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Annabelle McClary was another key player, putting up 11 points along with five assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Bishop Machebeuf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Belleview Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tara Polson, who went 9 of 19 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds. Addy Boyd also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Bishop Machebeuf's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Belleview Christian, their win bumped their record up to 3-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Machebeuf will square off against Union Colony Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Belleview Christian, they will take on Dawson School at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Belleview Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
