The Crestview Cougars will challenge the St. Paul Flyers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
St. Paul will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Crestview extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Cougars took their matchup with ease, bagging a 42-0 win over Plymouth. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 27.2 points per game.
Crestview's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Reymer, who rushed for 81 yards and one TD on only eight carries, and also picked up 67 receiving yards. Reymer's longest reception was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Liam Kuhn was another key signal caller, throwing for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Crestview was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 234 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 188 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for St. Paul on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew New London out of the water with a 47-6 final score. The victory continues a trend for the Flyers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.
Crestview better keep an eye on Nicholas Pocos. He was instrumental in St. Paul's win, rushing for 154 yards and two scores on only 11 carries. Landon Fries also helped with two TDs in total.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Paul's defense and their three sacks. Leading the way was Rafael Gross with two. Gross is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least nine every time he's taken the field this season. Levi Rospert got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Crestview's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for St. Paul, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
