Bloomfield is 3-0 against Newcomb since November of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Bloomfield Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Newcomb Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. Bloomfield will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 3 on the offensive boards, a fact Bloomfield proved on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 44-26 win over Pojoaque Valley.
Bloomfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Danielle Johnson out in front who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. That's the first time this season that Johnson posted two or more blocks. Aliya Quintana was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Newcomb came up short against Texico on Saturday and fell 48-39. Newcomb has not had much luck with Texico recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Michaela Roanhorse put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Miller, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Newcomb struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Bloomfield's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points per game. As for Newcomb, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Bloomfield have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 39 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Newcomb, though, as they've been averaging only 13 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Bloomfield against Newcomb in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 55-27 win. Will Bloomfield repeat their success, or does Newcomb have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
