The Katy Taylor Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Mayde Creek Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Katy Taylor has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29.
Last Wednesday, Katy Taylor came up short against Morton Ranch and fell 54-47.
Mayde Creek suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Seven Lakes, falling 84-52. While losing is never fun, Mayde Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while Seven Lakes is ranked 19th).
Despite the defeat, Mayde Creek had strong showings from Christian Gibson, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds, and Edwin Cleveland, who scored ten points along with two steals. Gibson hasn't dropped below 15points for 12 straight games. Bryan Hightower was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Katy Taylor has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-17 record this season. As for Mayde Creek, they dropped their record down to 10-18 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Katy Taylor was able to grind out a solid victory over Mayde Creek in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 69-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for Katy Taylor since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
