Chaminade and Notre Dame (SO) are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will head out to square off against the Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Chaminade sitting on five straight wins and Notre Dame (SO) on ten.
Last Tuesday, Chaminade beat Harvard-Westlake 8-3. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly five runs.
Finley Suppan was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Suppan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Hogue, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Another player making a difference was Katherine Osborne, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Chaminade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 7-1-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame (SO) gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Louisville with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Knights have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Chaminade, Notre Dame (SO) also got a great game from a two-way player: Aliyah Garcia. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Garcia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Nadia Ledon was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Molly Coppola was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Notre Dame (SO)'s win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Chaminade, their record now sits at 13-8-1.
Both Chaminade and Notre Dame (SO) just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame (SO) struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
