Softball Recap: Chavez Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

Chavez won against McFarland on Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Titans beat the Cougars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 14-3. Considering the Titans have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Madyson Herrera made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, ELLIE ESPIRITU was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Elizondo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Chavez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .560 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Chavez has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for McFarland, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11.

Coming up, Chavez will challenge Wasco at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Titans surely won't give up without a fight. As for McFarland, they will face off against Taft at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
