Denison is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Lovejoy is on a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Yellow Jackets will host the Leopards at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Denison 3.9, Lovejoy 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Denison is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Walnut Grove just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.
Denison saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Tilley, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Lovejoy got the win against Anna on Friday by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Gisela Boitmann made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Guarriello, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Katie Kinzig was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Lovejoy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anna only posted a batting average of .158.
Lovejoy's victory bumped their record up to 18-7-2. As for Denison, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Denison hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lovejoy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
