The First Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Lake Gibson Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully The First Academy is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lake Gibson in Florida (The First Academy is ranked 128th, while Lake Gibson is ranked 349th).
Even though Bishop Moore scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, The First Academy still came out on top. The First Academy took their game against Bishop Moore 67-58. The win was just what The First Academy needed coming off of a 70-46 loss in their prior contest.
Lorenzo De jesus was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Simmons, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Lake Gibson pushed their score all the way to 74 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 78-74 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Minneola. Lake Gibson's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
The First Academy's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Lake Gibson, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Everything went The First Academy's way against Lake Gibson in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as The First Academy made off with a 72-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for The First Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
