The Bernalillo Spartans fell victim to the Portales Rams''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Rams, falling 38-0. Bernalillo just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Uriel Castro threw for 132 yards on 11 of 21 attempts. Mason Mcchriston was his top target, picking up 49 receiving yards.
It was another big night for Paxton Culpepper, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes. Braden Beck was another key contributor, picking up 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Bernalillo's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Portales, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bernalillo will take on Albuquerque Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Albuquerque Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Portales, they will head out on the road to face off against Lovington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lovington is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
