The Peebles Indians will head out on the road to take on the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Peebles is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
Last Monday, Peebles came up short against Portsmouth West and fell 40-31. Peebles has struggled against Portsmouth West recently, as their contest on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Payton Johnson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Peebles' points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Smalley, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Lynchburg-Clay ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged Fayetteville-Perry out 55-52. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lynchburg-Clay.
Peebles' defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-3. As for Lynchburg-Clay, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Peebles came up short against Lynchburg-Clay when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 62-57. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lynchburg-Clay's Addison West, who scored 28 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
