West Stanly is 9-1 against South Stanly since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The West Stanly Colts will host the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Stanly has three straight victories, South Stanly has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
South Stanly's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: West Stanly hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. West Stanly didn't even let Anson on the board on Thursday, marking West Stanly's second-straight 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won six matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Madison Kirkland made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Laney Tucker was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Payton Watson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
West Stanly hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, South Stanly came up short against Piedmont on Wednesday and fell 9-4.
Coco Tyson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Huneycutt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
West Stanly's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Stanly, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Stanly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .472. However, it's not like South Stanly struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
