The Laurel Golden Tornadoes posted their biggest win since November 16, 2023 on Friday. They put the hurt on Stone with a sharp 63-38 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Laurel.
Several Tomcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was JaKobey Johnson, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jabori Moye, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Laurel's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Stone, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
Laurel will head out on the road to challenge East Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Laurel is ranked 117th). As for Stone, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Poplarville at 7:30 p.m.
