Lyons is 7-1 against Clear Creek since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Golddiggers at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lyons was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Estes Park 5-4. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Meanwhile, Clear Creek had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Mustangs. The match marked the Golddiggers' most dominant win of the season.
Zephyr Schuessler and Vinny Schoell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Schuessler tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schoell struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Schuessler has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Schuessler fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4, while Schoell scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave Schuessler a new career-high.
In other batting news, Clear Creek got a massive performance out of Wyatt Huff, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The Golddiggers are 3-1 when Huff posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Ski Hull was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Clear Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Clear Creek now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Lyons, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-6.
Everything went Lyons' way against Clear Creek when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Lyons made off with a 13-0 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golddiggers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
