Baseball Recap: Humansville Find Success

After low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Humansville brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against the Fair Play Hornets on Thursday as they made off with an 18-4 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jaden Honeycutt and Isaac VanGordon were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Honeycutt struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Meanwhile, VanGordon pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Honeycutt a new career-high. At the plate, Honeycutt scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while VanGordon scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Honeycutt also put up a hit, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Tate Ahlers and Ty Ahlers did most of the damage at the plate: Tate went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Ty scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave Ty a new career-high. Jackson Schuber was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Humansville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Humansville's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Fair Play, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Humansville will challenge Lakeland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fair Play, they will take on Macks Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
