Two dominant backs in Nolan White and Leo Mendoza are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Coastal Academy Stingrays will take on the Hilltop Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Coastal Academy comes in on six and Hilltop on five.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Coastal Academy beat La Jolla Country Day 33-28.

Coastal Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jesse Moyano out in front who rushed for 168 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Those 168 rushing yards gave Moyano a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zac Garland, who threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Coastal Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Jolla Country Day only rushed for 95.
Meanwhile, Hilltop won against Montgomery two weeks ago with 28 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Lancers took down Olympian 28-13. The Lancers pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
Coastal Academy better keep an eye on Lajuan Johnson. He was instrumental in Hilltop's win, rushing for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 61 yards. Zion Almazon was in the mix as well, providing Hilltop with one TD.
Hilltop didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Bryson Grant was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Hilltop received some extra help from Almazon, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Coastal Academy's record is now 9-1. As for Hilltop, their record now sits at 7-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Coastal Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hilltop struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 205.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
