Memorial has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Garfield G-Men at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Memorial comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Memorial suffered their biggest defeat since December 11, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Crestview at home and fell 64-13. While losing is never fun, Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 774th, while Crestview is ranked 119th).
Angeliz Diaz was Memorial's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Yaleiska Diaz held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.
Meanwhile, Garfield's 23-3 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They suffered a rough 54-32 loss at the hands of Champion on Thursday. Garfield was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-9.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mandy Cardinal, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlee Hill, who scored eight points.
Memorial's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-11. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.0 points per game. As for Garfield, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Memorial have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Garfield, though, as they've been averaging only 28.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Memorial lost to Garfield on the road by a decisive 37-18 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cardinal, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Now that Memorial knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
