With a playoff game on the line, the Kenwood Broncos rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top against the Dolphins by a score of 26-19. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Kenwood.
Mako Grant was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 37 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, Whitney Young saw an underclassman step up: Nasir Rankin gained 143 total yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 49 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes.
Kenwood's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.6 points per game. As for Whitney Young, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.
Kenwood will head out on the road to face off against St. Rita at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Rita presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kenwood in Illinois (St. Rita is ranked 14th, while Kenwood is ranked 71st). Whitney Young does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
