Basketball Recap: Uintah Falls Despite Big Games from Kiera Meanea and Kenadie Maughan

If Uintah was feeling good fresh off their 47-27 takedown of Orem last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Uintah Utes took a 42-27 bruising from the Provo Bulldogs on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Utes in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.

Uintah's loss came despite strong showings from Kenadie Maughan and Kiera Meanea. Maughan almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds, while Meanea posted four points and four steals. Maughan is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 13 or more in the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Uintah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Leading Provo to victory were Sutton Villa and Naomi Martinez. Villa dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Martinez earned 13 points along with eight boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sage Yenchik, who put up six points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Uintah's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Provo, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-2.

Uintah will square off against Timpanogos at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Uintah is facing Timpanogos at the right time seeing as Timpanogos is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Provo, they will be playing at home against Orem at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Provo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season.
