The Lyman Greyhounds will head out on the road to challenge the Ocoee Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lyman has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, Lyman needed a bit of extra time to put away Orangewood Christian. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-15 win over the Rams. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Greyhounds have posted since March 27th.
Lyman let Makayla Darwent and Ava Campanale run wild. Darwent went 4-for-6 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Campanale got on base in two of her six plate appearances with five RBI and three runs. Campanale continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Gold, who went 4-for-6 with two runs and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lyman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, while Ocoee put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Jones. The Knights blew past the Fightin' Tigers 16-0. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won nine contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Addy Sims was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sims was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Jadore Thompson looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Shyanne Marble was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with six stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Akya Feacher also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Lyman's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-17. As for Ocoee, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lyman has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ocoee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lyman couldn't quite finish off Ocoee in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
