The Omaha Westside Warriors pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-55 bruising from Millard West. While losing is never fun, Omaha Westside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Millard West is ranked third).
Despite the loss, Omaha Westside still got an impressive performance from Kara Stricklin, who scored 15 points. Kimora Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Millard West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Norah Gessert led the charge by scoring 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gessert has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Neleigh Gessert, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Omaha Westside and nudges their season record down to 11-7. As for Millard West, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Omaha Westside will stay at home for another game and welcome Bellevue West at 7:15 p.m. on January 30th. As for Millard West, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln High on January 27th.
