The Strasburg Indians will face off against the Wray Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Strasburg sitting on eight straight wins and Wray on five.
With a playoff game on the line, Strasburg rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past Gunnison, posting a 56-14 victory on the road. Strasburg might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Strasburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landen Martin, who threw for 259 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Austin Velasco did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 167 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Strasburg's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Thomas Devlin was the leader with two sacks.
Holyoke typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday Wray proved too difficult a challenge. Wray secured a 41-35 W over Holyoke. Wray pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Holyoke cut but never quite recovered from.
Wray's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Casey Midcap led the charge by rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Samuel Meisner also helped out as he racked up 204 rushing yards.
Strasburg pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 46 points. As for Wray, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Strasburg has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wray struggles in that department as they've been averaging 225 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
