The Felicity-Franklin Cardinals will square off against the Purcell Marian Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Felicity-Franklin is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
It was a proper cat-fight when Felicity-Franklin duked it out with Blanchester on Monday. The Cardinals fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 9-8.
Caleb Pauley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Logan Harless was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Purcell Marian). They blew past Mt. Healthy 27-1 on Saturday. The Cavaliers have beaten the Fighting Owls the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Fighting Owls has come to flipping the script.
Ronan Ribar made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Purcell Marian is 2-1 when Ribar posts two or more runs, but 4-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eugene Ingram, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Purcell Marian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-14 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brady Hopkins, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Purcell Marian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Felicity-Franklin's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Purcell Marian, their record now sits at 6-15.
