The third road game was the charm for The Athol Bears, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 26-16 victory over Mahar Regional on Friday. For Athol, this counts as revenge for the 12-0 defeat Mahar Regional walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Athol's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sawyer Lefsyk, who rushed for 175 yards while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Raydin Sousa did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 135 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Athol now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Mahar Regional, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athol will take on Greenfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Greenfield is ranked 283rd, while Athol is ranked 264th). As for Mahar Regional, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Franklin County Tech at 7:00 p.m. Franklin County Tech is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
