Hermiston and Kennewick are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hermiston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.2 runs per game this season.
Hermiston made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Southridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Suns with a sharp 20-4 victory on Friday. The game was the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Suns on their field since May 5, 2023.
Piper Roberts looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Kenley Venoy was a standout: she scored four runs while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Botefuhr, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
Hermiston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Kennewick came up short against Southridge on Tuesday and fell 11-8. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Suns recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Rylee Bendewald was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and three runs while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Goodnight, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Kennewick's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Hermiston, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hermiston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .553. However, it's not like Kennewick struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hermiston took their victory against Kennewick in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
