Section 5 Monroe Division I recap Oct. 23, 2012
Rush-Henrietta extended the longest winning streak in Section 5 Monroe Division I this week by beating Webster Thomas, 42-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Gates Chili made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,801 from 5,212. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 49-14 victory over Penfield last week.
The Patriots' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Paladino threw for 205 and one touchdown and Nick Kimmins had 68 yards receiving. On the ground Kimmins chipped in 100 yards. Jake Hewitt helped Penfield's passing attack out by catching five balls for 62 yards.
Penfield's Paladino and Trent Maurer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Paladino has thrown for 989 yards this season, while Maurer, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 34 catches for 436 yards. Chauncey Scissum from Rush-Henrietta leads the league in rushing with 679 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Mendon/Sutherland and Hilton. The Panthers comes into the matchup ranked 10th in the state, while the Cadets ranks 14th.
The Spartans led Section 5 Monroe Division I in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Greg Geesler's team.
