After a string of five wins, Monrovia's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Carmel Greyhounds by a score of 3-2. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Greyhounds 25-19 in the first set.
Monrovia started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-10.
Derby P. Gilkerson paced Monrovia's offense, picking up 29 kills. Gilkerson got some help from Maddox Miller and his 45 assists. Finally, Gilkerson was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.
Griffin Holdcraft was the offensive standout of the matchup as he had 12 digs and two assists. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last nine games he's played.
Monrovia's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Carmel, they now have a winning record of 8-7-1.
