Rocky Mountain has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Monarch Coyotes at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Rocky Mountain beat Fairview 60-56.
Avantae Hood continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with nine assists and four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Harrison Sandstedt was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Monarch posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They blew past Poudre 71-34 on the road. Monarch has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season.
Monarch's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Logan Laverty, who scored 19 points along with two steals, and Tyler Carlson, who scored 22 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carlson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Van Nellessen, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Rocky Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for Monarch, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Rocky Mountain have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6 threes per game. It's a different story for Monarch, though, as they've been averaging only 6.5 threes per game. Given Rocky Mountain's sizeable advantage in that area, Monarch will need to find a way to close that gap.
Rocky Mountain lost to Monarch on the road by a decisive 66-50 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Rocky Mountain avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
