Clinton is 1-9 against Turner since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clinton 4, Turner 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
It was a proper cat-fight when Clinton duked it out with Brodhead on Thursday. The Cougars fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 4-2.
Clinton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keylee VanderPahl, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Turner waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 17-7 win. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Maddy Hoenig was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and four RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Crall, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Turner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Turner's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.1 runs this season. As for Clinton, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Turner struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Clinton suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Turner in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
