Basketball Recap: Sunlake Snags Ninth Victory in Last 11 Games

Sunlake won the last time they faced Fivay and things went their way on Thursday too. The Sunlake Seahawks walked away with a 73-62 victory over the Fivay Falcons. Given the Seahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Falcons are ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sunlake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but George Clark led the charge by going 8 of 11 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds. Clark has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Christopher Murray, who went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Despite the loss, Fivay still got an impressive performance from Sean Brown, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Orvill Ortiz, who posted five points and ten boards.

Sunlake is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points per game. As for Fivay, their record now sits at 9-5.

Sunlake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-48 win against Freedom on the 10th. As for Fivay, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 83-22 victory against Angeline Academy of Innovation on the 10th.
