The Springstead Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Haines City Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Springstead will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Even though Mitchell scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Springstead still came out on top. Springstead skirted past Mitchell 37-34.
Springstead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Connor Mccazzio, who rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Mccazzio really tore up the turf during one magnificent 86-yard run. Another player making a difference was Gio Martinez, who rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Haines City fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They blew past George Jenkins 26-3.
Haines City found their leader in underclassman Kamari Smith, who rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown. Jamarius Knight also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Haines City's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. Leading the way was Jamal Williams and his two sacks.
Springstead's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Mitchell, Land O' Lakes, and Hernando. As for Haines City, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Springstead has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 241.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Haines City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
