Pioneer recap September 4, 2013
Matt Mesaros of Pope John Paul II ran for the longest rushing play in Pioneer this season against Berks Catholic last week. Mesaros scampered for 56 yards on the play and finished with 58 on the day as his team fell to the Saints.
Boyertown scaled the state rankings by moving to 226 from 289 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bears were able to make move up by defeating Central Bucks East 46-39.
Tate Carter was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 100 yards on 19 carries as Spring-Ford lost to Berks Catholic.
Mesaros was a passing and rushing force as Pope John Paul II fell to the Saints. Mesaros' favorite target this week was Bildstein, who caught 3 passes for 39 yards.
Bildstein was the best wideout in Pioneer this week as Pope John Paul II lost to Berks Catholic.
Riley Michaels put up the best numbers in passing as Pottsgrove bested Souderton.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Pope John Paul II's Mesaros and Bildstein have proven to be a lethal combination. Mesaros has thrown for 76 yards this season, while Bildstein, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 3 catches for 39 yards. Michaels from the Falcons leads the league in rushing with 72 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Pope John Paul II and Pottsgrove face off next week.
An important game coming up this the league this week will be when Boyertown takes on Upper Perkiomen. As it stands, Mark Scisly's team is in third, while the Indians are in fourth.
The league will see a high scoring game when Rick Pennypacker's team and Pope John Paul II face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Falcons comes in having scored 41 this season, while Pope John Paul II has scored 7. Pottsgrove scored 41 points last week as it topped the Indians.
Perkiomen Valley took down Plymouth Whitemarsh 33-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
