Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Ellis' Winning Streak

Ellis dropped their record down to 14-8 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 10-6 to the Ellinwood Eagles. The Railroaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Ellis saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Aschenbrenner, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs. Aschenbrenner has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Ben Byers was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Ellinwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

On Ellinwood's side, Drake Hosman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Hosman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ellinwood is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-11 otherwise. Hosman was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 games.

In other batting news, Campbell Coleman was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Ellinwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Gavin Kubick also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Ellis will square off against Plainville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Railroaders are facing the Cardinals at the right time seeing as the Cardinals are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Ellinwood, they will venture away from home to take on Minneapolis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
