Serrano hasn't had much luck against Oak Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks will host the Bulldogs at 3:14 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Serrano will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Sultana, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Diamondbacks put the hurt on the Sultans with a sharp 9-3 win on Friday.
Lexi Escalera made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off 11 hits. Escalera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Wendy Arauz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lilliana Gutierrez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oak Hills). Everything went their way against Burroughs on Friday as they made off with a 30-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Like Serrano, Oak Hills also got a great game from a two-way player: MARLEE FLORES. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave FLORES a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on KAYLA CAZARES, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. KAYLIN STEEDE was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Oak Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .610. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burroughs only posted a batting average of .333.
Serrano's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Oak Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Serrano hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Oak Hills struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
