Noah Brackett was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fruita Monument is 2-1 when Brackett allows one or fewer hits, but 5-7 otherwise. Brackett was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Brackett wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jimmy Hawkins, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Durango made easy work of Bayfield on Tuesday and carried off an 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Demons, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jack Englund looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ethan White and Dylan Burns did most of the damage at the plate: White went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Burns went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. White is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Duncan Walsh was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.
Durango was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayfield only posted a batting average of .182.
Durango is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Fruita Monument, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-8.
Fruita Monument was able to grind out a solid victory over Durango when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-4. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Demons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
