Kerens is on a three-game streak of home losses, Rio Vista a six-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Kerens Bobcats will take on the Rio Vista Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Two weeks ago, Kerens suffered a tough 48-28 defeat at the hands of Cayuga.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Lane Lynch, who threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Lynch is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mykel Lattimore, who picked up 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Rio Vista never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Cross Roads last Friday. Rio Vista walked away with a 32-22 victory over Cross Roads.
Ashton Huey had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Huey's longest rush was for an incredible 87 yards. Tate Conley was another key contributor, throwing for 135 yards and three touchdowns.
Rio Vista's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Anthony Zepeda and his two sacks.
Rio Vista's win bumped their season record to 2-5 while Kerens' loss dropped theirs to 3-4.
Kerens suffered a grim 49-26 defeat to Rio Vista when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Kerens, Taylor Pritchett (who rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also threw for 169 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
