South Point is 0-9 against Dawson-Bryant since April of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Pointers will square off against the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Point lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Gallia Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. The Pointers put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 12-2 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Pointers have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kota Copley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Copley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Adyson Copley was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kaylee Stidham was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
South Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Dawson-Bryant came tearing into Wednesday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Trojans.
Abbie Deeds spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dawson-Bryant's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Kitts, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Dawson-Bryant pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for South Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
South Point suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Dawson-Bryant when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Pointers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
