Rancho Bernardo took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the La Serna Lancers 15-13.
Rancho Bernardo can attribute much of their success to Gaige Weddle, who threw for 155 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 35 yards. Weddle also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Although La Serna took the loss, they still got scores from Zeb Bontemps and Brennan Meyring.
Rancho Bernardo and La Serna should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Broncos (ranked 134th) will meet Brawley (ranked 312th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, La Serna will face off against Schurr at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (62 vs. 406).
