Fort Zumwalt East gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Everything went their way against the Lutheran Cougars as the Fort Zumwalt East Lions made off with a 10-1 win. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 8-1 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2018.
Aiden Horn looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Fort Zumwalt East let Brady Copenhaver and Michael Gettemeier run wild. Copenhaver scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Gettemeier scored a run while going 1-for-1. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Kliethermes, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Coincidentally, Fort Zumwalt East and Lutheran will both be playing St. Charles West the next time they take the field. Fort Zumwalt East will host St. Charles West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, while Lutheran will play them later in the day, at 5:30 p.m.
