The Nebraska City Pioneers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Mercy. Nebraska City lost against Mercy in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-27 score last time.
Nebraska City lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tarryn Godsey, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Godsey is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 15 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kensie Briley, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Mercy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Madisyn Grzebielski, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Reagan Brekel, who scored 11 points.
Nebraska City has not been sharp recently as the team has lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Mercy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-12.
Nebraska City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mercy, they will head out on the road to face off against Brownell Talbot at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Mercy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday.
