Slocomb was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 3A Region 2. The Red Tops vanquished Wicksburg 27-13 earlier in the week.
Daleville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Long, 55-48. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Warhawks.
Slocomb's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. John David Ballard threw for 62 yards and Ehren Faison had 104 yards receiving. On the ground Jaleel Craig chipped in 54 yards. Craig helped Slocomb's passing attack out by catching one ball for four yards.
Slocomb's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Red Tops feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matt Hagler has thrown for 470 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Faison has 14 catches for 411 yards. Robert Smith leads the league in rushing with 345 yards.
Two of the top units in 3A Region 2 will face off this week when Mike Bennefield's team takes on Abbeville. The Red Tops' offense has recorded 134 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Yellowjackets have permitted only 187 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Dale County takes on Barbour County. As it stands, the Warriors are in fourth, while the Jaguars are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Abbeville and Slocomb face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Alphus Shipman's team comes in having scored 107 this season, while the Red Tops have scored 134. The Yellowjackets scored 25 points last week as they lost to LaFayette.
