It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Montgomery ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top against The Pingry School Big Blue by a score of 8-4. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Montgomery got a great performance from Jake Hayes as he struck out 12 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Hayes has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alex Bender was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Michael Englert also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Montgomery and bumps their season record up to 6-12. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for The Pingry School, their loss dropped their record down to 5-16.
