Tri-Valley and LeRoy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Vikings will head out to face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Tri-Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Tri-Valley earned a 4-1 win over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
Grayson Coughlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cole Klein, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for LeRoy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond by a score of 4-1 on Saturday. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
LeRoy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bo Zeleznik, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Tri-Valley pushed their record up to 7-1-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for LeRoy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tri-Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like LeRoy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tri-Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against LeRoy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
