The Deltona Wolves will take on the Lake Howell Silverhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Deltona comes in on six and Lake Howell on eight.
Deltona's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Jensen Beach as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Wolves have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Deltona got a great performance from Tessa Guenette as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Guenette has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kaitlyn Caruso was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylene Mieres, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Deltona hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jensen Beach struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Lake Howell sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over Seminole on Monday.
Rhianna Hudson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Hudson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cate Haggerty, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Skaii Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Lake Howell's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Deltona, their record now sits at 7-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Deltona hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Lake Howell struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Deltona skirted past Lake Howell 6-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
